Abstract

Concept analysis is a highly creative activity and may add significant new information to a glven area of interest. It is a strategy that examines the attributes or characteristics of a concept. Concept analysis is a formal linguistic exercise to
determine those defining attributes. The basic purpose of Concept analysis is to clarify ambiguous concepts in theory, and to propose a precise operational definition which reflects the theoretical base of the concept.
The concept of depression is too broad and variable in expression. Therefore there has been authentic definition. The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of maternal role which in turn will help in the development of a theory of
depression.
In this research, dictionaries and literature from nursing philosophy and other human disciplines were examined.
The attributes of the concept. Of depression which was analyzed based on the steps of concept analysis by walker & Avant(1988) are: 1) everyone experiences on his daily living life 2) be placed ona continuum from the ild transitory effects of
feeling
low to desease 3) Characterized by phgsical and emotional responses.
The model case was a real life example of the use of the concept. Borderline, related, invented and contrary cases were constructed for the purpose of providing examples of "not the concept" and for promoting further understanding of the concept
being
discussed.
The antecedents of the depression are : loss of meaningful objects (money, spouse, love, honor, pride et.). And the consequences of the depression are : anorexia insomnia, loss of interest and preasure. Fatigue, worthlessness, suicidal idea and
attempt,
